The majority of the population is clustered along the southern belt where the largest cities and nearly all its industries are located. The Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut remain a frontier, stretching to the arctic shores and embracing thousands of lakes no one has ever charted, counted or even named. Canada offers beautiful wilderness.

Canada has always been a loosely linked country, a confederation of provinces, not a union of states. Public interest in protecting the environment runs high in Canada, as seen in public policy. Recycling is common and local communities do a great job of balancing economic interests with environmental goals.
